Active Measures
An insider's take on how authoritarian regimes attack democracies — and what to do about it
Welcome to Active Measures, a weekly newsletter by me, Edward Lucas. I have spent 40 years dealing with the region we used to call “Eastern Europe”, including postings as a foreign correspondent in Berlin, Moscow, Prague, Vienna and the Baltic states, first for the BBC, and then for the Economist. I’ve written five books, including the New Cold War in 2008, which some people dismissed as scaremongering. Not any more.
I now work on analysing and countering Russian (and lately Chinese) active measures, also called influence operations. I’m a non-resident fellow at CEPA, a thinktank in DC.
This newsletter is subscribers-only but you can read previews on this site, and follow me on Twitter: @edwardlucas
